For some, Thanksgiving morning means gathering with family and friends for the Turkey Bowl celebrations. But for high school football teams like the Mayfield Cardinals, the morning is spent at War Memorial Stadium preparing for their biggest game yet. The tradition of practicing on Thanksgiving morning is one the Cardinals look forward to at the start of each season, and this season was no different.
“For me, this is the best practice of the year,” said head coach Joe Morris. “You don’t need anything to motivate yourself, the guys are doing things right. I’ve been very fortunate to experience a lot of that, a lot of schools don’t get to, so we don’t take it for granted.”
