Christmas Boat Lane Parade highlights the list of Bay Area holiday events

The holiday season is packed with events in Houston’s Bay Area, with highlights like a mammoth boat parade in Clear Lake and a lighted Christmas trail in Friendswood.

Friendswood’s Home for the Holidays Lighted Christmas Trail begins when it is lit at Stevenson Park, 100 S. Friendswood Drive beginning November 25.

The path features 100,000 lights as it winds its way through the park. Holiday characters will also be available, as well as a Christmas Fairy Hunt.

On December 3rd from 3pm to 8pm it all kicks off with Santa in the Park and the Friendswood Chamber of Commerce Lighted Parade.

Santa in the Park gives children the opportunity to take a picture with Santa Claus. Music, face painting, a petting zoo, rides, a Christmas market and the lighting of a 20-foot Christmas tree are also planned.

The event ends with an extravagant fireworks display; So expect crowds to gather in the last hour before the 6pm parade.

The hour-long parade begins on Heritage Drive before turning onto South Friendswood Drive.

The largest holiday event in the region in terms of attendance is likely to be the 61st annual Christmas Boat Lane Parade on December 10th.

Sponsored by the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, the parade attracts more than 100,000 spectators who watch from the shore or from the boat hundreds of watercraft anchored in Clear Lake.

The parade, which begins at 6:00 p.m., includes more than 60 colorfully decorated motor and sailing boats and begins at 6:00 p.m

To avoid congestion, the parade has two starting points, one at the South Shore Harbor Marina, 2551 S. Shore Blvd. in League City and also at Nassau Bay Lagoon. The start will be announced with fireworks.

The boats travel east through Clear Lake and eventually through the Kemah Channel to Galveston Bay. Once there, they turn around and head back through the channel to Clear Lake.

League Park, 512 Second Street, seems just as busy this holiday season.

Nutcracker in the Park, an all-day event from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on November 26, will highlight local shopping and family fun in the city’s historic district.

The Mouse King Market will feature vendors from more than 50 local small shops. Artisans, artists, and other small businesses offer goods ranging from clothing to food to jewelry.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., children can take ballerina lessons from the Bay Area Houston Ballet and Theater.

There will also be photo opportunities with characters from The Nutcracker.

The lighting of the city’s Christmas tree will highlight the day. This showcase runs from 5:30pm to 6:30pm and features music, hot chocolate and a free League City commemorative ornament.
