No. 24 Purdue @ West Virginia

Current records: Purdue 3-0; West Virginia 5-0

What you should know

The #24 Purdue Boilermakers will take on the West Virginia Mountaineers Thursday at 10:00 p.m. ET at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum. These two teams are looking to continue their momentum from their previous victories.

While not a dominant performance, Purdue defeated the Marquette Golden Eagles 75-70 last Tuesday. The Boilermakers can credit much of their success to center Zach Edey, who dropped a 20-point, 13-board, and three-block double-double. That makes it three straight games in which Edey had at least 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile, things were going well for West Virginia at home to the Pennsylvania Quakers last week as the team secured a 92-58 win. Four Mountaineers players scored in double digits: guard Erik Stevenson (21), guard Kedrian Johnson (11), guard Joe Toussaint (11) and forward Tre Mitchell (11). Stevenson struggled to get a foothold against the Morehead State Eagles last Tuesday, so this was a step in the right direction. Erik Stevenson’s points were the highest he had all year.

Aside from Summer Beaters, the Boilermakers are expected to win a close competition. Now may not be the best time to take on Purdue versus the spread as they have failed bettors for the last two straight games.

Purdue is now a perfect 3-0 while the Mountaineers sit at 5-0. A few numbers to remember before you tip: Purdue keeps their opponents at a 35.10% field goal percentage, which puts them 13th in college basketball. But West Virginia comes in and has the 21st-highest field goal percentage in college basketball at 50.90%. These opposing strengths should make for an exciting matchup.
